A 28-year-old Maui man was arraigned today in Maui District Court on first-degree attempted murder charges for nearly striking police officers with a stolen car.

Samson K. Hill of Hana had eluded police for nearly a week after speeding away from police at the Wailuku McDonald’s restaurant on Main Street and nearly hitting officers on March 6.

An officer then fired his weapon at the vehicle, but no one was reported injured, police said.

Police found the brown 2013 Hyundai Elantra, which Hill had been driving, abandoned in Wailuku.

But Hill wasn’t found until Sunday when he was arrested at his home and charged with two counts of first-degree attempted murder, two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening and unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.

Police also arrested a 33-year-old woman on suspicion of hindering prosecution, but she was released pending investigation.

Hill made his initial appearance in court today, and his bail was confirmed at $500,000.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday.
