The prospect of a terrorist attack, especially one of the nuclear variety, is frightening, but the first public service announcement aimed at boosting preparedness has a keep-calm vibe. A mild-mannered presentation by Hawaii Emergency Management Agency points out the need to stock supplies. The second one to come in a week or so will play the warning siren wavering tone. OK, that’s a little scarier.

Still, it would be worth getting a few more particulars about planning at a public session, 9 a.m. Nov. 4 at Building 303 in Diamond Head Crater. Take a deep breath, and go.

Wonder who’ll play Magnum — and female Higgins?

What is this fascination TV has with old Hawaii series? Not that we’re complaining: The planned “Magnum, P.I” update will provide fodder for the local production industry. But it’s noteworthy that two of the most successful long-running shows here have been the two versions of “Hawaii Five-0,” so maybe CBS figures lightning will strike twice, this time with “Magnum.” This refreshed version will recast the original characters, with the exception that a woman will be playing Higgins.

“Hawaiian Eye Redux,” anyone?
