Trapper the beagle sat down next to this bag and looked at his handler, Jonathan Saito, indicating that he had detected a fruit, during a recent morning at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport. The bag, belonging to passenger Krystyna Jennings, contained a banana, which is a restricted fruit. The banana should have been detected at previous screening areas but got through. Honolulu has six beagle and canine handler teams working for the USDA.

Divina Batangan had her bag checked by Patrick Tamaye earlier this month. At the agricultural inspection station, check-in luggage is scanned and inspected before going to the mainland. If something is picked up in the X-ray machine, the luggage will be searched. Nothing was found in Batangan’s luggage.
