Pali Highway is scheduled for nightly lane closures in the Honolulu-bound direction beginning 8 p.m. Sunday, which will continue through the week until 5 a.m. each day until Friday morning for an improvement project, according to state transportation officials.
Next week’s lane closures are as follows:
>> Honolulu-bound: All lanes closed between Kamehameha Highway and Waokanaka Street. Motorists may use Likelike Highway, the H-3 freeway or Kalanianaole Highway as alternate routes.
>> Kailua-bound: Left lane closed between Waokanaka Street and the Pali Tunnels.
>> Intermittent two-lane closures between Waokanaka Street and Nuuanu Pali Drive.
Crews will be performing median work, drainage improvements and re-striping. No crosswalks or sidewalks will be closed.
Electronic message boards will be posted, and special-duty police officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control. Emergency vehicles, first responders and TheBus will be notified of the roadwork and allowed through the closures.
The Sunday night-through-Friday morning closures will occur weekly for about a year, with estimated completion in March 2019.
The Pali Highway improvement project includes the installation of LED light fixtures from Vineyard Boulevard to Castle Junction and resurfacing from Waokanaka Street to Castle Junction, including the parallel Waokanaka Street and the Pali Highway / Waokanaka Street intersection.
Lane closure information associated with the project is updated weekly on the HDOT website under road closures. Construction updates, schedules and maps are also available at palihighway.org.
