Hawaii second baseman Alyssa Sojka’s home run to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning proved to be the difference in the Rainbow Wahine softball team’s 3-2 win over Cal State Northridge to open a Big West series on Friday at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
After Sojka’s homer to center gave UH (22-23, 6-10 Big West) a 3-1 lead, the Matadors (20-34, 5-11) scratched out a run with two outs in the top of the seventh and moved the tying run to third. But UH senior Dana Thomsen got Jessica Alexander to ground out to shortstop Cheeks Ramos to end the game.
Thomsen (14-14) struck out four walked one and gave up five hits in a complete-game victory.
The Rainbow Wahine close the home schedule today with their senior-day doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. Thomsen and fellow UH seniors Danielle Garcielita, Jordian Hicks, Courtney Hiruko and Rachael Turner will be honored after the finale.
