Hawaii Pacific University’s Lena Lutzeier was named the 2018 Division II Honda Athlete of the Year nominee for tennis, it was announced on Tuesday.
Lutzeier, from Blaustein, Germany, is now one of 11 finalists for the Division II Honda Woman Athlete of the Year award, which will be voted on at the end of the academic year by a national balloting among 1,000 NCAA member schools.
“I am grateful to have had such a big impact on college tennis my last season and to be selected for this honor,” Lutzeier said in a release.
Named the 2018 ITA Senior Player of the Year, Lutzeier finished her senior season atop the ITA individual rankings. She ended the season with a 22-1 singles record and a 19-5 doubles record. She was also named the Player of the Year for the PacWest Conference.
Nomura to host judo training camp
Tadahiro Nomura, the only three-time Olympic gold medalist in judo, will conduct a training camp today through Friday at the Hawaii Tokai International College’s Matsumae Auditorium in Kapolei.
In conjunction with Hawaii Judo Inc., Nomura, Haruki Uemura (Kodokan President and Olympic gold medalist) and Chikara Kariya — along with three sensei from the Kodokan Judo Institute — will lead the clinic.
Today’s clinic runs from 1 to 4 p.m., while sessions Thursday and Friday go from 9 a.m. to noon.
