Local work trucks tried to pass through during a traffic jam on a weekday in mid-August near Bamboo Forest, a popular tourist stop along the Hana Highway in Kailua, Maui. Community volunteers say visitors are creating additional hazards along the winding, sometimes narrow route by parking illegally, encroaching on roadways and ignoring safety barriers and warning signs.
