The Hawaii Geek Meet will mark its 12th annual grassroots gathering at Ala Moana Beach Park when it convenes Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the center of Magic Island. There will be more than 40 local clubs and organizations represented.

The Geek Meet is designed to draw technical and creative people out into the sun, and encourages them to share their passions with kids and families at a free, casual outdoor event that’s designed to highlight the many unique interests and talents of local people.

Groups as diverse as the Blue Startups tech accelerator and Star Wars cosplayers will be there, as will several video gaming groups, including e-sports teams from ‘Iolani School and the University of Hawaii at Manoa and livestreamers from Twitch Hawaii and Hawaii Stream Team. Lovers of “Star Trek,” steampunk and geocaching will gather, alongside a lightsaber tournament, some FPV drone racing and Pokemon Go trading. The Geek Meet also will feature a full-size replica of the Iron Throne from “Game of Thrones.”
