Hawaii’s Tri Bourne and Trevor Crabb lost in Saturday’s semifinals of the FIVB World Beach Championships and will play for the bronze medal today in Hamburg, Germany.
Bourne (Academy of the Pacific) and Crabb (Punahou), seeded 13th, will face top-seeded Anders Mol-Christian Sandlie Sorum. Mol is the younger brother of former Rainbow Warrior All-America middle Hendrik Mol.
In Saturday’s earlier quarterfinals, Bourne-Crabbe rallied to beat Brazil’s Andre Loyola Stein-George Wanderley 16-21, 21-15, 17-15. They couldn’t keep the momentum later Saturday, falling to third-seeded Viacheslav Krasilnikov-Oleg Stoyanovskiy 21-13, 19-21, 15-11.
In Friday’s round of 16, Crabb’s brother Taylor (Punahou) and partner Jacob Gibb were eliminated by Krasilnikov-Stoyanovskiy of Russia 21-13, 21-18.
Surfers eliminated at Ballito Pro
Hawaii surfers Ezekiel Lau and Barron Mamiya both were eliminated in Saturday’s round 9, sharing ninth place at the Ballito Pro in Ballito, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
Lau lost his heat to Australia’s Jack Freestone 13.27-7.17, while Mamiya was ousted by Brazil’s Ian Gouveia 16.40-5.40 in the World Surf League Qualifying Series 10,000-rated event.
Eliminated on Friday was Hawaii’s Keanu Asing.
UH volleyball Meet & Greet set for Aug. 10
The third annual Hawaii women’s volleyball Meet & Greet is set for 5:30 p.m., Aug. 10, at College Hill.
The cost is $500, with net proceeds going to the program for, among other things, summer school and supplemental meals. The event includes heavy pupu, two drinks and valet parking, and a chance to mingle with coach Robyn Ah Mow, her staff and Rainbow Wahine players.

Team qualifies for pool championships
Y’s Sports Bar of Honolulu won the APA 9-Ball World Championships qualifier at Hawaiian Brian’s Billiards to advance to next month’s championships in Las Vegas.
The team is comprised of Landy Kimura (captain), Timmy Nakamura (co-captain), Grace Castillo, Shana Hinokuma, Ronnie Sato, Ron Sugihara, Matt Goto and Dustin Odani. The world event is scheduled for Aug. 13-17 at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino.
