The $1 million to be paid to Hawaii by Equifax Inc. is part of the credit reporting agency’s settlement for a major data breach in 2017. Names, Social Security numbers, credit card numbers and other data were vulnerable.
Perhaps a little less serious was the exposure of isle student data on the career planning portal My Future Hawaii. Key personal data were not included. At least, though, this was a lesson for students: Guard your data, because break-ins such as Equifax’s can and do happen.
Little fire ants in your neighborhood?
Little fire ants — those tiny, orange bugs making another appearance in Windward Oahu, with a bite that really stings — generally are attracted to oily foods. So the Department of Agriculture suggests a very thin smear of peanut butter on a wooden chopstick as bait.
If ants turn up, place the stick in a sealed baggie, freeze for 24 hours, and mail to the department, 1428 S. King St, Honolulu 96814.
Ants’ appetites can change, but peanut butter usually works. Experts advise: Use the cheap stuff.
