I find it deeply troubling that President Donald Trump is withdrawing our forces from Syria. The withdrawal will leave the Kurds to fend for themselves against Turkey, which has a powerful military and no need for that ethnic group. The exodus will also further the instability of the region.
The withdrawal has been criticized by many, including staunch Trump supporters like U.S. Sens. Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham, military and world leaders.
Trump warned Turkey not to do anything foolish, for whatever that’s worth.
I sincerely hope Turkey will not commit genocide against the Kurds, who helped the U.S. defeat ISIS.
The U.S. must not turn its back on those who have helped our cause for freedom and stability. Otherwise, who should believe and trust in the U.S. and its leaders?
