Record rainfall in Vegas thunderstorm

LAS VEGAS >> The power is back on in Las Vegas after a thunderstorm downed utility lines and dumped a record amount of rainfall on the Strip, prompting a pair of water rescues.

Officials for NV Energy say 10,000 customers were without power at one point Sunday night but that all the outages had been restored by Monday morning.

The National Weather Service says Sunday’s rainfall totaled 0.74 inches at McCarran International Airport. That’s nearly twice the old record of 0.42 that fell on July 3, 1961.

Clark County firefighters rescued two men in different incidents Sunday in flood waters near Flamingo Road. Authorities say a 30-year-old man was pulled from 4-foot deep water near Flamingo and Swenson. A man in his 60s also was rescued from a wash near Flamingo and Paradise.
