Neighbor isles to conduct memorials for Sen. Inouye

County governments on Hawaii island, Kauai and Maui are holding memorial services this week for U.S. Sen. Daniel Ino­uye, who died Dec. 17 at age 88 of respiratory complications.

About 1,000 people, including President Barack Obama, attended a service for Ino­uye at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl on Sunday. On Saturday evening several thousand people paid their respects as Ino­uye lay in state at the state Capitol courtyard.

Here are details on the neighbor island observances:

» Thursday: Hawaii County will host the memorial service from noon to 2:30 p.m. at Afook-Chinen Hilo Civic Auditorium.

» Friday: Kauai County will hold a memorial service at the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall. Visitation is at 4 p.m., followed by a service at 5 p.m.

» Saturday: Maui County will hold a service at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Castle Theater. Visitation is at 9 a.m., followed by a service at 10 a.m.
