Hawaii Public Radio completes Spring pledge drive

Hawaii Public Radio completed its 8-day fundraising drive at about 7:45 this evening following a flurry of last-minute pledges.

The two nonprofit, publicly funded and separate program streams available on all major Hawaiian islands, completed its twice-a-year pledge drive this evening with a joint, last-minute, on-air simulcast.

The two stations, operating from the first floor and the basement of studios and offices on Kaheka Street in Honolulu, had a goal for this pledge drive in excess of $970,000 to keep both station-networks and their programming and staffing operating for the next six months.

The stations hit their goal, with more than $11,000 to go, in a simulcast beginning at 7 p.m. following the stations’ legal identification.

Shortly after the top-of-the-hour ID, President and General Manager Michael Titterton said, “If you were looking for the sensational moment to, you know, show a little leg, this is the moment.”

Following constant on-air pitching and thanking of listeners for pledging, in addition to a last-hour matching gift pledge of $1,500, Titterton pronounced the pledge drive completed successfully at about 7:45 p.m.

In keeping with tradition, the stations returned to regular programming immediately.
