    Three Maui hunters needed assistance from Makawao firefighters when they got disoriented by fog and darkness on the Waiakoa Loop Trail early this morning.

Maui firefighters extinguished a 500-square-foot brush fire that came within 50 feet of a residence and Maui Church of Christ, 810 Waiehu Beach Road, in Wailuku Friday afternoon.

The fire was reported at 4:38 p.m. The fire spread through the brush and mangrove and came within 50 feet of the buildings before firefighters brought the fire under control by 4:54 p.m. and extinguished it about 5:30 p.m.

No monetary losses or injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
