Owner, witness help police catch alleged surfboard thief


Two citizens helped officers catch a man who allegedly tried to steal a surfboard left in the back of a pickup truck in the McCully area Thursday morning, police said.

The suspect allegedly tried to grab the surfboard from the back of the truck, but was stopped and detained by a witness and the owner of the surfboard at about 6:30 a.m.

Officers arrived and arrested the suspect, a 22-year-old man on suspicion of theft.
