Allegiant flight evacuated in Vegas after smoke fills plane

LAS VEGAS >> Officials at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas say people have been safely evacuated from an Illinois-bound plane after reports of smoke in the interior.

Airport spokeswoman Christine Crews says Allegiant Airlines Flight 436 bound for Peoria was on the taxiway when the problem was detected about 3 p.m. Monday.

Officials say the airport’s firefighters responded, and 144 passengers and six crew members were evacuated using slides.

No injuries were reported. Crews says the situation was clear by about 3:45 p.m.

Allegiant spokesman Brian Davis says passengers were shuttled to the terminal to wait for an alternate flight.
