Storm runoff on Kauai prompts Health Department warning

The state Department of Health’s Clean Water Branch has issued a brown water advisory for the east-northeast areas of Kauai from Nawiliwili to Hanalei.

The public is advised to stay out of flood waters and storm runoff due to potential contamination from overflowing cesspools, sewer manholes, pesticides, animal fecal matter, dead animals, pathogens, chemicals and associated flood debris.

The advisory cautions people to stay out of coastal waters that are turbid and brown.
