A 23-year-old man died Sunday after falling approximately 80 feet onto a rocky beach area in Pepeekeo.

Big Island fire rescue personnel responding to an 11:24 a.m. emergency call found the man with severe traumatic injuries and in full cardiac arrest and attempted to resuscitate him. 

The man was transported by paramedics to Hilo Medical Center, where he later died.

The incident occurred at a shoreline access off Loa Road. The man reportedly fell while attempting to climb down a cliff to the beach with friends.
