The overhead lights illuminating the H-1 freeway in town are working properly again after they went dark during the pre-dawn commute Tuesday morning.

A worn-out photo cell, which serves as an indicator for the lights to turn out, caused the freeway lights in the Kalihi area to go dark for several hours early Tuesdaymorning, Department of Transportation spokeswoman Caroline Sluyter said.

However, work crews have replaced the cell and the lights should now operate normally, Sluyter said.
