SAN FRANCISCO » A DJ is dead and his friend is recovering from knife wounds after being attacked by a mob outside a San Francisco nightclub.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that 29-year-old Joseph Razo died Tuesday after the fight outside the Cellar nightclub.

San Francisco police say DJ and Apple data analyst Razo and his friend were leaving the club on Jan. 25 when they noticed a group of at least seven people attacking another friend. The pair waded into the fray to help. Police say someone in the crowd stabbed Razo and his friend before the group of attackers dispersed.

Both injured men were taken to San Francisco General Hospital. The unnamed friend recovered but Razo died this week.

Police have not identified or arrested any suspects in the killing.

I hate stories like this. Thank you for caring enough to try and help, Joseph. Rest in peace.

Sadly, the killer if caught, can plausibly claim self defense. It depends entirely on what “waded into the fray to help” really means.

Also depends on where the DJ and his friend were stabbed. If they were stabbed in the back that is in no way self-defense.

And depends on what the DJ was doing when stabbed. Even if stabbed in the back, self defense can still be plausible if the DJ was in the process of beating or attacking someone and was stabbed by another to stop the attack. It all may be sorted out eventually.
