UH men’s volleyball team drops a spot in AVCA poll
Despite winning both of its road matches last week, the Hawaii men’s volleyball team dropped a spot in today’s AVCA Division I-II Top 15 poll.
Hawaii (12-9, 7-9 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) traded places with Pepperdine (10-6, 9-6). The Warriors fell to No. 9 and the Waves moved to No. 8 after their upset Saturday at then-No. 3 Stanford.
BYU (16-2, 12-2 MPSF) replaced Long Beach State at No. 1, receiving 17 of the 20 first-place votes. The 49ers (18-3, 12-2 MPSF), losing to then No. 5 Ohio State on Saturday, received two votes in dropping to No. 2.
UCLA (19-3, 13-3) and Ohio State (17-3, 9-1 MIVA) both moved up a spot, the Bruins to No. 3 and the Buckeyes to No. 4. Stanford (15-3), 13-3 MPSF) slipped two spots to No. 5 while Penn State (13-4, 7-0 EIVA) stayed at No. 6 and UC Santa Barbara (14-8, 9-7 MPSF) remained at No. 7.
Hawaii has the week off and returns to action when hosting UC Irvine (7-13, 5-11 MPSF) March 25 and 26.
Also today, the Hawaii beach volleyball team remained at No. 5 in the AVCA Collegiate Beach Top 10.
The Rainbow Wahine (3-3) host defending national champion USC (5-2) at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the T.C. Ching Complex courts. The Women of Troy fell a spot to No. 3 after losing to Florida State (9-0) last week.
The Seminoles moved up to No. 2 behind Pepperdine (4-0). UCLA (4-3) dropped one place to No. 4 after losing to Florida State last week.
Rounding out the top 10 are Long Beach State (1-5), Arizona (5-1), Georgia State (9-1), Stetson (9-10) and Florida International (5-2).
