Marcelo Carcamo-Lopez was charged with murder in connection with the stabbing death of his wife, Miriam Carcamo.

A 41-year-old man charged with murder in connection with the stabbing death of his 42-year-old wife at their Makiki apartment pleaded not guilty to the charge at Honolulu District Court today.

Marcelo Carcamo-Lopez, also known as Marcelo Carcamo Lopez and Marcelo Carcamo, appeared in court this morning with his wrists and ankles shackled before Judge Russel Nagata after he was charged Thursday for second-degree murder in Meriam Carcamo’s death.

Deputy Public Defender Bryant Zane pleaded not guilty to the murder charge on Carcamo-Lopez’ behalf. Nagata confirmed his bail at $1 million and set his preliminary hearing for Wednesday.

The fatal stabbing occurred Tuesday night at apartment 605 at Pacificana Apartments, 1125 Young St. where Carcamo-Lopez lived with his wife and her teenage son from a previous relationship.

Police said Carcamo-Lopez argued with his wife. The dispute escalated and he allegedly stabbed her multiple times with a knife and fled.

Meriam Carcamo’s son, Mark Rizan, was at the apartment at the time of the stabbing and found her with stab wounds to the upper part of her body.

Emergency Medical Services responded and transported her in critical condition to a hospital where she died.

Police arrested Carcamo-Lopez as he returned to the apartment building at about 11:15 p.m.
