Leila Fujimori

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed today that the man who was pulled from waters off Kaimana Beach Sunday has died, but release of his name and cause of death are pending identification by next of kin.

The man was found unresponsive underwater Sunday sometime before 5:47 p.m. near the windsock off Kaimana Beach.

Off-duty lifeguards and fire personnel went on boards to assist bystanders and brought the man to the beach, where cardiopulmonary resuscitation was begun, a fire official said.

Emergency Medical Services transported the man, reportedly in his 30s or 40s, to the hospital in critical condition.

The Medical Examiner’s Office said he died today at the Queen’s Medical Center.
