HPD responds to bone discovery in Waikiki

Authorities recovered a large bone from a construction site this morning in Waikiki, police said.

Hawaiian Electric Co. workers unearthed the bone while digging a hole at a construction site near Lipeepee Street and Ala Wai Boulevard at about 1:35 a.m.

Police said the bone possibly came from a cow or a horse, but workers called police out of caution.

State officials could not be reached so the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office recovered the bone for examination.
