Woman’s body retrieved after apparent fall on Big Island

The body of a woman in her 20s was recovered by helicopter today from a difficult-to-reach area along the shoreline in Hilo, firefighters said.

Firefighters arrived at the scene near the 15-mile marker along Highway 19 for what appeared to be an apparent fall at about 1:20 p.m. They found the woman with no signs on life, Hawaii island firefighters said. Rescuers used a helicopter to retrieve the woman’s body.

Firefighters said the cause of the incident was unknown and the case was turned over to police for investigation. Police did not immediately have information.
