Bicyclists were within yards of the finish line Sunday at Kapiolani Regional Park after riding around the eastern end of Oahu, potentially to the Windward side, and back, in the 36th Annual Honolulu Century Ride. More than 1,700 cyclists began just after 6 a.m. at the park and pedaled in their choice of distances in the 25-, 50-, 75- or 100-mile ride, presented by Japan Air Lines. The Aloha Fun Ride was another, shorter option.

Volunteers at the Nuuanu YMCA collected items Saturday for the YMCA of Honolulu’s Kokua for Houston’s Keiki donation drive. Drive-through drop-off wraps up today from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1441 Pali Highway to fill a 40-foot Pasha Hawaii shipping container that will be distributed to families impacted by Hurricane Harvey. Items sought include new or unused sports gear, toys, games, books, crafts, school supplies and snacks. Monetary donations are also being accepted. See ymcahonolulu.org.
