Fire threatening Makakilo homes quickly doused

Firefighters brought a brush fire that got close to homes Friday afternoon under control in less than an hour in Kahaiwelo near Makakilo.

The fire was estimated to be roughly 3 to 5 acres.

The first HFD accompany was dispatched at 2:50 p.m. to 91-546 Oawa St., and the first unit arrived in six minutes.

Forty-six personnel from 15 units, including Air 1 used for observation only, responded to the blaze.

The fire spread to a shed at a home at 92-619 Welo St. That fire was reported at 3:24 p.m, and was brought under control in three minutes.
