Police identify Maui woman killed when truck slammed into tree

Police are investigating a deadly single-vehicle crash in Wailea that killed a 21-year-old Kihei woman.

She is identified as Rhendie M. Hepa.

Shortly after 7:05 p.m. Sunday, police said Hepa was traveling northbound on Wailea Alanui Drive in proximity to Malukai Lane in a blue 2006 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck.

The vehicle struck a raised curb on the shoulder of the roadway while negotiating a right curve. Police said the truck then climbed a curb and slammed into a tree.

Hepa was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition where she later died.

Police said she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

This is Maui County’s 15th traffic-related fatality compared to 21 at the same time last year.
