Brown water advisory canceled for Kauai

The state health department canceled a brown water advisory that was issued islandwide on Kauai this morning due to stormwater runoff entering coastal waters.

Brown water advisories also remain in effect at Honolua Bay, Maui and for the coastline between Hamakua to Kalapana on Hawaii island.

The advisory recommends that the public stay out of flood waters and storm water runoff due to possible overflowing cesspools, sewer, manholes, pesticides, animal fecal matter, dead animals, pathogens, chemicals and associated flood debris. While not all coastal areas may be impacted by runoff, the health department recommends staying out if the water is brown, continuing to practice good personal hygiene and following up with a primary care physician if there are any health concerns.
