University of Hawaii baseball team drops opener at Fullerton

Catcher Daniel Cope drove in three runs, including two on a seventh-inning homer, to boost Cal State Fullerton to a 6-3 baseball victory over Hawaii and into first place in the Big West.

By winning the opener of this three-game series in Fullerton, Calif., the Titans improved to 18-18 overall and 5-2 in the Big West. The Rainbow Warriors fell to 20-14 and into a second-place tie at 6-4.

The ’Bows took a 3-2 lead when Adam Fogel pounded a two-run homer off the pole in left in the fifth, ending an 0-for-23 slump. But the Titans scored two in the bottom of the fifth to regain the lead.

The teams meet today at 3 p.m.
