Hiker, 49, dies after falling from Ahuimanu Trail

A 49-year-old man has died from injuries he sustained Thursday after falling about 30 feet while hiking at Ahuimanu Trail.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man today as Fred Patricio Jr. of Honolulu.

Firefighters responded to a report of an injured hiker later identified as Patricio at 11:08 a.m. Thursday. When they located him, bystanders were performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on him.

Firefighters airlifted Patricio to a landing zone at Ahuimanu Elementary School where Emergency Medical Services administered advanced life-saving treatment.

Paramedics transported him in critical condition to a hospital where he died.
