HECO restores power to downtown, Kalihi customers after downed utility pole sparks outage

Hawaiian Electric responded to a power outage that affected more than 1,550 customers in the Kalihi and downtown Honolulu areas.

The outage due to a downed utility pole was reported at approximately 3 a.m. today, affecting about 1,580 customers in Iwilei, Kalihi, Kapalama, Liliha and Palama, said spokeswoman Shannon Tangonan.

Power was restored to most of the customers at about 5:40 a.m.

Crews are working to replace the pole in proximity to Auld Lane and Halona Street to restore power to the remaining half-dozen customers.
