2 escape apartment fire in Kalihi

A man and woman safely escaped injury this afternoon after a fire broke out in apartment unit in Kalihi.

The fire was reported at 2:55 p.m. at 828 Puuhale Road. The Honolulu Fire Department responded with 10 units staffed with 39 personnel.

Arriving firefighters found a second-floor unit fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters brought the fire under control by 3:04 p.m. and had it fully extinguished by 3:09 p.m.

The two occupants were alerted to the fire by a neighbor and were able to escape without serious injury. Both were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and damage estimates are not yet available.
