It is interesting how unfairness is raised when the facts seem to prove that the GOP has degraded itself by giving up its previous stand of unbendable support for the rule of law in governing and turning Trumpian (“Hawaii GOP leaders need strong platform,” “Newspaper skewed against Republicans,” Star-Advertiser, Letters, Dec. 1).

Republicans are silent when the administration attacks the Justice Department; refuses to support the CIA when it warned of proven foreign interference in our elections; and refuses to implement election safeguards.

They are silent when President Donald Trump and his family violate the emoluments clause in the Constitution, raking in millions of dollars from their private businesses because he is president.

Republican-controlled state legislatures have gerrymandered voting maps, enacted voting laws that prevent minorities from being able to vote, and in their lame-duck sessions, took away gubernatorial powers from newly elected Democratic governors.

The Republican Party has died under Trump and has lost the trust of American voters. Why should Hawaii embrace the GOP when it is trying to destroy our democracy, as Russian President Vladimir Putin wants?
