Hawaii island man arrested in beating of another man, 85

    Rayner Kinney Jr., arrested Wednesday on suspicion of attempted murder, was charged with drug offenses and protective order violations.

Hawaii County police arrested a 62-year-old Kau man Wednesday on suspicion of attempted murder and other offenses for  allegedly hitting an 85-year-old Ocean View man during a domestic dispute in May.

Rayner Kinney Jr. was charged Wednesday with drug offenses and protective order violations and held in lieu of $1,250 bail.

Police said the older man reported that, at his Kona Gardens subdivision home, Kinney beat him with his fists May 22. He reported that the 62-year-old also struck him with a metal and wooden objects, and kicked him. The 85-year-old received injuries to his head, arms and body, and was taken to his doctor by private vehicle, police said.
