The high surf advisory for south shores of all islands has been extended until 6 a.m. Monday.

The National Weather Service ways waves with face heights of 4 to 8 feet will continue to come ashore Sunday night and should lower to 2 to 4 feet on Monday.

West shores are seeing 2 to 5 foot surf, diminishing to 1 to 3 feet on Monday.

East shores can expect 1 to 3 foot surf through Monday and north shores will see waves of 2 feet or less.

The high surf on the busiest beaches on Oahu led to 130 rescues or assists by Oahu lifeguards Saturday.

Three people were washed off a ledge at China Walls in the Portlock area at about 4 p.m., a spokeswoman for the Honolulu Emergency Services Department said.

Two people were able to climb out of the ocean, but a man in his 20s needed help from lifeguards. He suffered serious cuts to his head and arm and multiple abrasions, said Shayne Enright, the Emergency Services Department spokeswoman.

Paramedics treated him and took him to the hospital in serious condition.

Lifeguards also warned about 978 people about the potentially dangerous conditions.

The National Weather Service says the high surf creates strong breaking waves, shore break and longshore and rip currents that can make swimming dangerous.
