Laie Point drowning victim ID’d as Waianae man, 26

The Medical Examiner’s office has identified the 26-year-old man who died in an apparent drowning near Laie Point on Friday as Traison Ako of Waianae.

Ako reportedly jumped into the ocean from a nearby cliff to assist a family member who was having difficulty in the water.

Arriving firefighters and Ocean Safety personnel located Ako in the water with two other people but was unconscious and did not have a pulse. He was brought to shore on a watercraft and was pronounced dead at the scene.
