Bicyclist seriously injured in wrong-way crash on Kauai
A 22-year-old Kapaa man remains hospitalized Wednesday after he was struck while riding a bicycle on Kuamoo Road in Wailua Tuesday evening.
Kauai police said the bicyclist was hit by a 20-year-old Kapaa woman driving a Ford sedan around 6 p.m. heading west on Kuamoo Road, roughly one mile from the Kuhio Highway intersection. The bicyclist was traveling east in the westbound lane. State law requires bicyclists to ride in the same direction as traffic in the adjoining roadway lane.
The 22-year-old bicyclist suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries. He was taken to Wilcox Hospital where he remains.
The bicyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The female driver of the Ford sedan and her 20-year-old male passenger did not report any injuries.
Kuamoo Road was closed in both directions from approximately 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. while officers conducted an on-scene investigation.

I’ve noticed a significant increase in the number of bicyclists riding against traffic.
Probably attributable to the city allowing them to ride against the flow on King St?
Naw. More attributable to the fact that they’ve always done it and almost never get ticketed. A lot of people don’t even know there are road rules for bicycles.
