Byron’s Drive-In serves its last burgers and slush

Scores of Hawaii residents said goodbye today to a drive-in restaurant that’s been open for 47 years.
Customers stood in long lines for hours at Byron’s Drive-In near the Honolulu International Airport on its last day of business for their final bite of the popular shrimp burger and other favorite foods, along with a slush drink.
The restaurant was also popular for its burgers slathered with customer-favorite red or yellow sauces.
It’s scheduled to close at 10 p.m., or when the food runs out.
The family of the late founder Andy Y.Y. Wong said the restaurant lease to the property ended and the landowner plans to redevelop it.
Byron’s is the last remaining eatery owned by the companies launched by the late Andy Wong and wife Marian in 1954, when they bought Leon’s Tavern in Kailua.
