Makaha man charged for allegedly trying to run over man

A Makaha man who allegedly tried to run over a man on Sunday was charged Monday with first-degree terroristic threatening.

Alvin Baptista, 57, was initially arrested on suspicion of attempted murder about 1 p.m. Sunday.

Police said Baptista was driving on Farrington Highway near Makaha Beach, which was busy with holiday beachgoers. When a 24-year-old man tried to signal for him to slow down, Baptista drove his vehicle at the man, forcing him to jump to the side of the road to avoid being hit, police said.

Officers arrested Baptista at his home. His bail was set at $25,000.
