Motorcyclist killed in crash identified as Kaneohe man, 25
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office identified a 25-year-old man who was killed in a motorcycle crash today in Kaneohe as Tootoo Atimua.
Atimua, of Kaneohe, collided with a sedan at the intersection of Haiku Road and Heeia Street about 8:30 a.m., police said.
Witnesses told police that Atimua, who was wearing a helmet, was overtaking vehicles in the southbound direction on Heeia Street before the crash, police said.
Atimua struck the sedan while making a left turn from Heeia onto Haiku, police said. He was taken in critical condition to Castle Medical Center where he died.
The sedan’s driver, a 27-year-old Kaneohe woman, was headed Ewa on Haiku when she was hit. The woman and a baby in the backseat were not injured in the accident.
The accident marked the 16th traffic fatality this year compared to 19 at this time last year.

Unusual — most times it’s the car turning left in front of the motorcycle that causes these. The article reads “while making a left turn”, not “while the car was making a left turn”. Wonder if that’s correct.
Good point…perhaps clarification when more details made available…if any. If MC at high speed and making an abrupt left…I can see where the article would indicate the motorcycle making turn into oncoming…which can happen in an effort to beat the oncoming auto.
Maybe the rider failed to “Too Too” his horn!
