The 22-year-old homeless man, suspected of harassing Manoa residents last month, stood within five inches of his latest victim’s face at Ala Moana Center yelling  and threatened to hit him, according to court documents.

The District Court preliminary hearing for Yama Fazzari will be held Tuesday afternoon on his latest charge of first-degree terroristic threatening after he was arrested and charged with threatening a couple at Ala Moana Center Wednesday night. His bail was set at $25,000. First-degree terroristic threatening is a class C felony with a maximum jail term of five years.

The Ala Moana terroristic threatening incident occurred a day after Fazzari was released by a judge after being arrested Feb. 22 for allegedly picking a fight and kicking people at Manoa Valley District Park. His District Court trial for the petty misdemeanor offense is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. April 21.

According to a police affidavit Fazzari confronted a couple who were leaving Macy’s on the shopping center’s third floor at 8:45 p.m. Wednesday when Fazzari allegedly approached them.

The suspect then walked up to the 33-year-old male victim bringing his face within five inches of the victim’s face and allegedly threatened to hit him, his female companion and a dog.

The 30-year-old female victim started to call police on her cell phone.

At that point the woman said she could hear Fazzari say: ""I’m gonna hit you" to her male companion.

Fazzari fled, but a bystander followed him.

The couple told police while they were reporting the incident to Ala Moana Center security personnel when the suspect returned driving his car within 20 feet and parked nearby. The suspect then began walking towards the couple, but retreated when he saw security personnel approaching him.

A police patrol officer saw Fazzari’s gold colored Toyota Camry at Piikoi Street and Kapiolani Boulevard five minutes later at a stop light and pulled him over a few blocks later because the car had a defective rear right tail light. The couple later identified the suspect in a field line up.

Last week a District Court judge granted Fazzari supervised release over the objections of a deputy city prosecutor. The judge also rejected a request that Fazzari undergo substance abuse assessment and treatment.

Fazzari also was ordered to stay away from Manoa Valley District Park.

Police have said Fazzari is believed to be the person whom the Manoa Valley Neighborhood Security Watch members said had been harassing residents near Manoa Marketplace and other areas since early February.
