Obama ‘robocalls’ for Hanabusa

President Barack Obama’s recorded voice urging a vote for Democrat Colleen Hanabusa is being heard around Hawaii’s 1st Congressional District.

Hanabusa spokesman Richard Rapoza says automated telephone calls began Wednesday to 68,000 voters in the district, which represents urban Oahu.

He says the calls were financed by Hanabusa’s campaign but coordinated by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the White House.

In the 47-second call, Obama says he knows Hanabusa, calls her a fighter, and urges a vote for her to continue progress on clean energy and education issues.

Hanabusa’s rival, Republican U.S. Rep. Charles Djou, told KHON the calls demonstrate that Democrats are worried he will retain the seat on Nov. 2.
