Tropical Cyclone Amos brushed past American Samoa and Samoa, causing some flooding, but no serious injuries, deaths or severe damage.

The Samoa Disaster Management Office posted pictures on its Facebook page of flooding along some road and downed trees, which blocked roads near Manase and Safotu.

Airports in Samoa and American Samoa remained open and were running normally.

The Weather.com website said the storm brought gusty winds and heavy rains early Saturday to American Samoa.

Pago Pago International Airport reported a peak wind gust of 54 mph as the center of Amos passed north of the island of Tutuila, Weather.com said.

The website also reported that about 7.25 inches of rain fell on the airport in Apia, Samoa.

Amos neared the islands with the strength of a category 2 hurricane, but leveled off in intensity.

Accuweather.com reported that the storm was moving east, away from American Samoa and was weakening this morning as it encounters wind shear and cooler waters.

Winds were at about 60 mph, with gusts near 70 mph near the center of the storm.

It could still bring rains and winds to American Samoa through Monday.
