The National Weather Service canceled a wind advisory for Oahu and Kauai, but rain was still expected overnight and gusty and cold north winds were still expected to bring the coolest temperatures of the winter to the islands so far this season.
Forecasters were expecting a cold front to move over Kauai this evening and Oahu before midnight, bringing clouds and showers with it.
The weather system is expected to continue down the state, bringing rain to Maui County and the Big Island overnight into Sunday.
Strong winds behind the front were no longer expected to reach wind advisory levels, but it will still be gusty, up to 40 mph, overnight into Sunday.
The winds will be strongest in areas downwind of higher terrain and in north-facing valleys, the weather service said.
A high wind warning is in effect for Hawaii island summits, where gusts of 65 mph or higher, could blow starting after midnight into Sunday evening.
The north winds will also bring the coldest temperatures of the winter to the islands.
Lows could dip into the 50s Sunday and Monday nights.
“Daytime highs Sunday and Monday will be rather cool as well, with highs only in the 70s for most areas,” forecasters said.
Palani and I will enjoy a cozy fire on the Laie beach.
