Chang thinks he can beat popular Slom; we’ll see

Stanley Chang has been on political hiatus since leaving the nonpartisan City Council to run for Congress two years ago, but it’s not surprising to see that he’s making another go at political office.

Chang, who ran for the U.S. House as Democrat, could try to win a seat with the state Senate majority.

If he were to succeed as a Democrat, he would replace incumbent Sam Slom, the Senate’s lone member of the GOP. Assuming no other Republican snags one of the 25 Senate seats, the minority caucus would drop to zero.

It’s a bit early in the season for such musings … but not too early.

Both Chang’s parents are union bosses and they are determined to annoint their son as some future big political leader in Hawaii. Taking out lone Repub Slom would only be icing on the cake. If Chang needs another PRP type campaign to smear Slom as they did Cayetano, his parents can set that up pronto.

If Chang gets elected, it will be because of the D and nothing else. What a shame if that happens.

If he gets elected, it will be because Hawaii Kai wants a Senator who can actually get something done instead of just saying “no” to everything.

When he says no its because he’s standing up to the system that keeps electing democrats to a corrupted Hawaii political system. Sorry I prefer courage. Stan is a good guy but he’s part of the same system that is clogging Hawaii’s political landscape. Personally I prefer R and D right down the middle but not someone who will exclusively represent mommy and daddy’s wishes.

I can’t see Stan losing after all he did on the Council./

hahaha, and what did he do ? Nothing as usual

His ONLY purpose was to be an automatic City council pro rail ‘yes’ vote. He accomplshed that and unions rewarded him and his parents with the financial backing for his FAILED congressional bid. The parents told their son aim lower and do what LOSER candidates or those termed out like Donovan DelaCruz or Cachola do; and that is run for State legislature where there are NO term limits. After few years as a State legislature run as lieutenant governor and one day become to become governor of Hawaii. Union boss parents got it all mapped out. I am not mistaken, the son has a Harvard law degree. It is just those pesky voters not voting for their son.

PS Nice click bait “story”. The text said absolutely nothing.

I hope he can’t beat Slom! Thats the conscience of the Senate.

  6. Wazdat says:

Tell that kid stanley to stay home with his parents. We DO NOT NEED ANOTHER D in office, no go away kid.

IMO, Stan, bless his heart as a person, reminds me too much of Charles Djou. Both of them have a keen ability to completely miss the unintended consequences of their proposals. Smart people, but boy, those unintended consequences of both of their policies are doozies.

Actually, someone running against Sam Sloan is not a bad idea. Wish another republican would do so and win the seat. Time for Sam to ride off into the sunset.
As far as Stan Chang, I was not impressed with his time on the City Council and of course he jumped ship as soon as something better came along.
Kind of an opportunist, me thinks! What say you!
