Motorist dies after truck flips over

A 31-year-old Waianae man was killed Tuesday morning in Maili after he lost control of a pickup truck that struck boulders and a telephone pole and flipped over.

The Medical Examiner’s Office identified the driver as Edward Aipa.

Police said Aipa was believed to be speeding on Paakea Road about 0.7 of a mile east of Maili Beach Park at about 2 a.m. Emergency Medical Services said the victim was dead when paramedics arrived on the scene.

The driver was heading west on Paakea Road when the truck climbed the embankment and hit several boulders and a telephone pole before flipping over.

The accident marks the 51st traffic death on Oahu this year, compared with 53 during the same period a year ago.

Hawaii isle burglary suspect still at large

Hawaii County police are searching for a 21-year-old Hilo man suspected of stealing more than $300 worth of items from a Hilo home in late October.

Several items were taken Oct. 30 from the Haihai Street home. Detectives investigating the burglary uncovered the identity of the alleged suspect, police said. He is described as 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing 180 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

He is also wanted for questioning in connection with other burglaries in Waiakea Uka, police said.
