Snowden's girlfriend identified as member of Hawaii dance troupe

By Star-Advertiser staff

LAST UPDATED: 03:47 p.m. HST, Jun 10, 2013

The girlfriend of National Security Agency whistleblower Edward Snowden has been identified by The Daily Mail newspaper in London as Lindsay Mills, a former ballet dancer who performs with an acrobatic group in Hawaii.

Mills, 28, is a Baltimore native who lived with Snowden on Oahu and has worked with the about 20- to 30-member Waikiki Acrobatic Troupe for about a year, a fellow troupe member told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser today on condition of anonymity. The troupe member acknowledged meeting Snowden several times and described him as quiet.

Mills is fairly new to the group and performs pole dancing, partner acrobatics, and aerial dance, the source told the Star-Advertiser. She typically performs as part of a smaller group of acrobats every first friday of the month at Mercury Bar, in downtown Honolulu.

The couple rented a home until recently on Eleu Street in Waipahu.

Snowden, 29, ignited a national firestorm of debate last week when he divulged the existence of NSA anti-terrorism programs, including that the federal agency gathers records of millions of U.S. phone calls and also has access to Internet usage data from the top U.S. Internet companies. Snowden gave the information to The Guardian newspaper of London and the Washington Post.

Snowden was a technical assistant for the Central Intelligence Agency but more recently worked for the NSA as a contractor with Booz Allen Hamilton, the Guardian reported.  Booz Allen confirmed that Snowden worked for the firm for fewer than three months with a team in Hawaii. The offices are at 733 Bishop St. downtown.

Of course this is news. Women are always suspects in this kind of thing. She may be a foreign agent who seduced him and got him to "turn" and reveal secrets. How many times this turns out to be the case. Note how she appeared suddenly, they live together, then they both disappear.

and to be very candid, - what or how much in these national news blast articles written or picked up by s/a can be construed as absolute fact, grounded by muliple layers of support and/or verification? we're not exactly dealing with water-gate type "reporters", are we?? fact - we're not exactly the center of the nation! fact - most of what we get is regurgitated "news"! what is said to have been done versus what is actually done are at time diametrically opposed. all we can do is hope and wish for the best that all details have been vetted - given that there is no real and/or competition to this monopolistic news outlet. ah, the enigma of it all!!! the names and the characters may be about the only things verifiable. as far as the other details go - w-e-e-e-e-l-l-l ......??!

Her name was publicly released by another news group and once that happens it doesn't matter if SA reported her name or not. Like the movie Inception when Ken Watanabe told Leonardio DiCaprio to "choose your people more wisely" when DiCaprio's coworker messed up; same could be said to choose ones friends or significant other more wisely as well.
