Traffic near the intersection of Ward Avenue and Kapiolani Boulevard will be re-routed tonight as a Board of Water Supply contractor connects a new 12-inch main to the existing main.

This construction work — slated to get started at 8 p.m. and wrap up at 5 a.m. tomorrow — will close a portion of two Ewa-bound lanes on Kapiolani Boulevard at the Ward Avenue intersection.  It will also shut two makai-bound lanes on Ward Avenue, between South King Street and Kapiolani Boulevard. In addition, one mauka-bound lane on Ward Avenue, from Kapiolani Boulevard to the Blaisdell Arena, will be contra-flowed.

Motorists traveling through the construction area are asked to abide by the posted traffic signs and to allow for additional travel time.

The construction is part of the ongoing Water System Improvement Project on Ward Avenue from Kinau Street to Kapiolani Boulevard. The project aims to enhance water service to area residents and businesses by improving fire protection and reducing the likelihood of water main breaks.

For additional information, contact the Board of Water Supply’s Communications Office, 748-5041.
